David Mackersey - Director Chairman

 

David Mackersey has been involved in the Hawkes Bay building industry at Mackersey Construction Ltd (formerly J C Mackersey Ltd) since 1971, qualifying with a New Zealand Certificate in Building.

 

In 1989, he was appointed Managing Director, taking over the family business from his late father, John Mackersey.  David is Mackersey Construction Ltd's Chairman as a result of the company's recent growth.

 

In 2003, David established Mackersey Development Ltd, based in Havelock North, specialising in Property Development and Property Management throughout the Hastings and Napier areas and administrating a growing multi million dollar property portfolio.

 

Mackersey Construction Ltd undertakes the Project Management and Construction expertise in a large portion of this Property Development work.

Dave Sawers (B Com CA) - Director

 

Dave was originally from Timaru and attended Otago university. He then worked with the chartered accountancy firm Deloittes for six years in Wellington and the Middle East.

Dave moved to Hawkes Bay in 1985 and joined Dent Robertson & Partners becoming a partner in 1989.

Dent Robertson & Partners merged their accountancy firm with Staples Rodway Hawkes Bay Limited in 2006.

As a business advisory director with Staples Rodway Hawkes Bay Limited Dave acts for a wide range of commercial and rural clients and offers expertise through direct involvement with his clients on taxation, business management and succession planning.

Dave was appointed a Director of Mackersey Construction Limited in 1997.

Wayne Birchall - Managing Director

 

Wayne was appointed as General Manager of Mackersey Construction Ltd in mid 2006.

 

In early 2010, due to the company's recent growth Wayne was appointed Managing Director.

 

Wayne began his career as a Carpenter in 1980 and progressed through Site/ Project management with some of New Zealand’s leading contractors, to Construction/ Development manager with acclaimed Auckland developers.

 

Wayne has extensive knowledge of development and construction in New Zealand and other countries such as Australia and the United Kingdom, including major projects in the Retail, Commercial, Industrial and high-rise Residential sectors.

 

Wayne’s experience with both sides of the Construction and Development industries gives clients assurance that they are using a company that understands their specific needs during the sometimes stressful construction phase of their extremely important projects.

 

Wayne’s aim is to create construction solutions that work for our clients today and provide benefits for their future. Wayne’s direction for Mackersey Construction Ltd is to provide our customers with what they really want and not with what we think they need. This is achieved by gaining knowledge of their business now and understanding their future aspirations.

John Bower - Operations Manager/Director

 

John has been with Mackersey Construction for the past eleven years, nine as Joinery Manager and now as Operations Manager becoming a Director in early 2010.

 

Earlier in John’s career he worked for the company in 1980 for three years as a Joiner and then moved into the construction area of Mackersey Construction for four years before taking leave to go overseas.

 

John manages our construction and joinery staff.  As Operations Manager John prides himself on his ability to maintain the highest standards of workmanship as well as meeting clients required completion dates.

 

Johns experience in Joinery manufacturing ranges from highest quality kitchens to solid timber exterior joinery and extensive office fit outs.

 

John is extremely proud to be part of Mackersey Construction as we are one of the leaders in the Construction Industry in the Hawkes Bay and have a reputation of high quality with efficiency and cost competitiveness.

 

Johns aim is to keep the company as a front runner in the building industry as well as to strive to assist our clients to achieve their personal goals.

Geoff Hall -  Project Manager

 

Geoff joined Mackersey Construction in 2009 bringing over 32 years experience in commercial, industrial and residential construction.

 

He started his carpentry and joinery apprenticeship in 1978 with James Wallace Construction who were two years later bought by Fletcher Construction in Wellington.

 

In 1983 Geoff was transferred from Fletcher Construction to Fletcher Construction South Pacific and for seven years worked in Fiji, Papua New Guinea and the Solomon Islands as a Construction Site Manager.

 

Following his return to New Zealand, Geoff completed more projects for Fletcher Construction as Project Manager before taking on a Construction Manager position for a major Wellington Property development which went for 14 years.

 

Geoff’s experience with construction, development and overseas work gives the client the satisfaction that Geoff, with the support of the Mackersey Construction Team, can deliver a quality project.

 

Geoff’s aim is to maintain and improve the good quality name of Mackersey Construction with professional project and site management.

Lindsay McLean  -  Senior Quantity Surveyor/Estimator

 

Lindsay began his Quantity Surveying career as a Cadet with the Ministry of Works in Wellington.

 

He relocated to the Hawkes Bay in late 1977 to work as part of  the client site based Management Team for the construction of the new Mutton Slaughter Complex Facility at the then Tomoana Freezing Works

 

Subsequent employment was with a Professional Q.S firm, numerous Construction Companies and a Development Company.

 

Lindsay returned from three years working in the Middle East where he worked on a number of very large projects to take up his position with Mackersey Construction in May 2009, “appreciative of the company’s fine reputation for excellence over time and keenly anticipating being part of the progressive Mackersey Team.

Chris Loveder  -  Project Manager /Quantity Surveyor

 

Chris joined Mackersey Construction mid 2007 bringing over fourteen years of British building experience.

He gained a National Diploma in Building Studies before commencing a BSc. in Building Surveying, in London.

Chris has worked for various sub-contractors in Britain and his knowledge ranges from residential through to large commercial. Contracts range from housing to high-rise office blocks and hospitals through to swimming pool complexes.

Chris aims to provide a beneficial service by utilizing his British and New Zealand experience and to ensure Mackersey’s excellent reputation is maintained throughout Hawke’s Bay.

Philip Mitchell -   Project Manager/Quantity Surveyor

Philip was born and bred in Hawkes Bay before attending Otago University where he gained two science based degrees. He then jetted off to London where he spent seven years working in the construction industry. Starting as a Site Manager/Foreman he quickly moved his way up the management chain to Project Manager.

 

He has worked for some established main contractors in London and he specializes in working closely with clients to ensure projects are completed to their satisfaction. He has experience in project managing most forms of construction including residential, commercial, schools and retail.

 

He is currently studying towards his Diploma in Quantity Surveying. He is looking forward to establishing himself at Mackersey Construction and being a valuable member of the management team.

Henry Botha -  Quantity Surveyor/Estimator

 

 

Henry Botha joined Mackersey Construction as a Quantity Surveyor/Estimator in 2010 after five years in the construction industry in Wellington.  Henry has worked on a variety of projects, from $2 million up to $70 million.  Highlights include working on the Vogel Building, the Wellington Indoor Sports Centre and the headquarters for the New Zealand Defense Force.

 

Originally from South Africa, Henry has moved to Hawkes Bay with his young family.

John Caccioppoli  -  Supervisor/Company Programmer

 

John completed his carpentry apprenticeship with J C Mackersey Ltd in the early sixty’s and believes he has worked with and learnt from  some of the most skilled trades people in the Hawkes Bay  building Industry.

 

Over the many years he has worked with some of the best architects, engineers and project managers, on some of the most challenging contracts that Hawkes Bay has had to offer. This includes single to multi story buildings, cool storage complexes, new Hawkes Bay prison, underground car- parking facility and complex for local Pak n Save outlet, and new and existing wineries around the Hawkes Bay. John has also gained a wealth of knowledge and experience on the largest hospital contract within the Hawkes Bay being Hastings Hospital which included new operating theatres and alterations to existing buildings.

 

John has been a solid asset to the company and has confidence and trust placed in him as a Construction Supervisor for Mackersey Construction.  He is looking forward to the years ahead and its challenges.

Mark Adams - Construction Manager

 

Mark completed his apprenticeship with Mackersey Construction in 1979 gaining his advanced trade certificate.

 

By 1980 he was building his first two storey office block and has run major projects such as the Hawkes Bay Prison, Latter Day Saints Church Hastings, and Briscoes Napier.

 

Mark specialized in large scale commercial projects with an expertise of working outside the square, building to tight schedules and maintaining the highest standards of quality.

 

Mark is now one of our Supervisors who monitor all projects and staff on a day to day basis. Mark ensures the correct construction methods are being used in a safe manner to produce the quality that our clients expect in the required time frames and budgets set. Marks can do attitude is an attribute that all our clients enjoy and respect.

John Deacon  -  Site Manager

 

John has been in the building industry for over 30 years, completing his apprenticeship with JC Mackersey Ltd in 1976. He has been with the company for over 16 years with having had some time building overseas and brings an extensive variety of experience to the team at Mackersey Construction Ltd.

 

John has worked on projects from commercial to residential such as Hastings District Council Building, Tomoana Freezing Works, Magapapa Lodge and Waiapu House Rest Home Redevelopment.

Ross Morgan  -  Joinery Manager

 

As our Joinery Manager Ross brings 20 years experience to the company.

 

Ross started his career in a small joinery firm having to learn quickly in all aspects of joinery and in doing so earned "Apprentice Of The Year" in 1991.

 

Ross joined Mackersey Construction in 1995 as a joiner, designing and creating all types of quality joinery and was then promoted to Joinery Foreman in 2004, overseeing the joinery team.

 

Ross’s enjoyment and passion for the Joinery Industry comes from working closely with architects and clients to produce the highest quality joinery in Hawkes Bay.

Sarah Mason  -  Office Manager

 

Sarah joined Mackersey Construction in early 2002 and spent two years in the accounts department before leaving for a stint overseas in early 2004.  Sarah rejoined the company in October 2004 and has set about taking on the challenging position of Office Manager overseeing all aspects of the Accounts Department.

 

Sarah’s outgoing and proactive attitude means she strives to help clients, subcontractors and employees in all aspects from a friendly greeting to resolving any queries they may have.

 

Sarah is proud to be part of the Mackersey team and looks forward to advancing with Mackersey Construction Ltd in its future ventures.

Natasha Weaver  -  Administrator

 

Natasha has been with Mackersey Construction since December 2008 in the accounts department as a part time administration support. She helps maintain the efficient running of the office and offers a friendly and helpful service to clients and subcontractors.

Kellie Waites -  Receptionist/Office Support

 

Kellie joined Mackersey Construction in March 2010 in the accounts department and as our first contact at reception Kelly provides everyone with a welcoming and friendly greeting and ensures that all queries are efficiently passed out to the correct personnel within Mackersey Construction.
